Make the UK a hostile environment for traffickers
The Coalition to Stop Slavery is calling on the Government to make the UK a hostile environment for traffickers, not the victims of trafficking.
Did you know that human trafficking and other forms of modern slavery are currently a low-risk, high-reward enterprise for criminals?
Of all the traffickers that get prosecuted, only 23% are successfully convicted.
And if a trafficker is actually convicted, they stand a good chance of a lenient sentence or even walking free.
The Coalition to Stop Slavery is therefore asking the Government to:
- urgently address the appalling conviction rate for modern slavery offences which should include moves to
- improve sentencing guidelines and training for judges so that perpetrators receive sentences that reflect the seriousness of their crimes.
What next?
In late 2023 The Coalition is convening a group of anti-slavery and legal experts who can make specific recommendations.
You can help by following the Coalition on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and put pressure on the Government at the right time.
Let’s make the UK a hostile environment for traffickers, not the victims of trafficking.
